Chelsea Handler, Playboy Cover for December

Hang on, Hef. Don’t clear out a room just yet — Chelsea Handler isn’t here to stay. The comedienne appeared on Jay Leno’s prime-time show Wednesday night to debut her Playboy cover, in which Handler appears in a gold bikini. But, that’s all you get to see.

Handler, who hosts the late-night talk show Chelsea Lately says she trained for the skimpy shoot by “not drinking for a day and a half.” Inside photos feature Handler preparing a Christmas dinner with her sidekick from Lately, Chuy. Leno had the cover blown up to wall-size for Handler’s appearance on his show — she had not seen the cover yet.

Black Friday Deals 2009: “Christmas Creep” Leads To Earlier Deals

CHICAGO (AP) — Sears took “Christmas creep” one step further Wednesday, pitching its weekly sales as “Black Friday doorbuster” deals before Halloween.

The merchant, owned by struggling parent company Sears Holdings Corp., said it would kick off the weekly specials Friday evening and open stores at least two hours early every Saturday through Thanksgiving, hoping to draw shoppers with the promise of markdowns before the day after Thanksgiving.

The traditional shopping spree — dubbed Black Friday because it often was the day when a surge of shoppers helped stores break into profitability for the full year — has marked the kickoff of holiday shopping for many shoppers. But its importance has faded in recent years as merchants started hawking the deep sales and expanded hours usually reserved for that day well in advance.

Sears’ decision to start the sales nearly a full month in advance of the traditional Nov. 27 shopping spree shows just how desperate the struggling chain — and its competitors — are ahead of what’s expected to be a grim holiday season.

George Rosenbaum, chairman of the retail consulting firm Leo J. Shapiro and Associates, said he expects other merchants to change their traditional Black Friday strategies, too, either by offering deeper-than-usual discounts or expanding the amount of time they’re available to shoppers.

“Retailers are prepared for the worst,” he said. “(They’re) going to go even more aggressively than they did last year.”

Meanwhile, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is already advertising its selection of holiday toys for under $10, and Amazon Inc., Target Corp. and Wal-Mart are all going head-to-head slashing down prices on yet-to-be released hardcovers that are for sale on their Web sites.

At best, economists expect holiday sales to be flat from a year ago, when businesses recorded their biggest declines in at least four decades. Economic data released Tuesday showed an even more grim picture, as shoppers said they were worried about job security.

“I think retailers are not counting on much improvement to begin with,” said Michael Niemira, chief economist at the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Sears spokeswoman Natalie Norris-Howser said the deals will rotate each week. But they’ll be available only from 7 a.m. until noon each Saturday. (For the first week of the promotion, Sears will begin the sales this Friday at 5 p.m.)

Norris-Howser said Sears, which is based in Hoffman Estates, Ill., will also offer Saturday specials after Black Friday in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

Among the discounts advertised by Sears are a 302-piece Craftsman mechanic’s tool set that’s half off, a $400 elliptical machine that typically sells for $700, and $80 diamond earnings that are marked down almost 70 percent.

The following week’s specials include a 42-inch Zenith plasma screen TV for $499, about 23 percent off.

Gretchen Bleiler on Conan O’Brien Wednesday

Conan likes his U.S. Ski and Snowboard athletes! Lindsey Vonn and Shaun White made their pre-Olympic rounds earlier this month and now Olympic silver medalist Gretchen Bleiler will take the Tonight Show set. Bleiler will join SNL funny guy Norm MacDonald and musical guest Dan Cummins on tomorrow’s show.

For Bleiler, it’s a quick stop on her way to Copper Mountain, where she’ll join U.S. Snowboard Teammate Louie Vito in training for the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix. “I am super excited to be going on the Conan O’Brien show. I think he is the man and I love watching his show,” Bleiler gushed. “It’s going to be an awesome experience to be on the couch myself.”

As for questions on the Olympics, Bleiler is ready. “I know we’re going to be talking about the season ahead and the Olympics as well as the Olympic qualifiers,” Bleiler said. “We also have something secret planned that would be unique and fun for the show, but I’m not sure if it will work out. Everyone will have to tune in to see.”

'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' actors face challenge of keeping careers magical

This was one time Tom Felton, one of the stars of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," could have really used a spell of protection.

Chauffeured to a recent appearance at a store opening, the 21-year-old actor found a throng of jubilant admirers waiting for him.

"We felt like the Beatles because there were people cheering," says Felton, who is still sporting his dyed blond locks from his turn as the dastardly Draco Malfoy. "We thought we would put the window down and be like, 'Hi, it's nice to see you.'

"We put the window down, this woman reached right in and grabbed my hair," he says, reenacting his squirming under the fan's grasp. "'Pull the window up, pull the window up!'"

Welcome to life for a student of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where the young actors are learning the pressures of a franchise that has earned almost $4.5 billion at the box office worldwide.

But with the sixth installment of the franchise hitting theaters and the last two movies currently being filmed simultaneously, a major crossroads is looming for the franchise's young actors. Will there be enough magic left in their careers after Harry Potter?

"The success that they've had in the eight years would make an entire career for most people, but they've turned into really good actors over the course of the last few years and hopefully that ability will help them transcend these roles," says Paul Dergarabedian, box office analyst for Hollywood.com.

But the movie industry is littered with the wreckage of the careers of former child actors that couldn't make the transition into adult roles. For every Jodie Foster, there are a dozen Lindsay Lohans and Macaulay Culkins.

"They're waiting for you to become the stereotypical child actor and go off the wheels a bit," says "Potter" veteran Rupert Grint, 20. "But I'm not planning on it. We're too busy to go too crazy, anyway, because we're filming most of the year."

The films' young stars also have one major advantage over child actors past: They're working with a cast heavy on award-winning British veterans like Alan Rickman and Dame Maggie Smith. Harry himself, Daniel Radcliffe, said he agreed to take on his gutsy role in "Equus" on castmate Kenneth Branagh's recommendation.

"Can you imagine how intimidating that must have been for them when they were starting out," says director David Yates. "By osmosis, they've probably been picking up so much, because the only actors they've ever worked with are these incredible veterans who are the best at what they do."

Who’s the most overpaid actress in history? Could it really be Nicole Kidman???? She’s definitely not my favorite actress. The Hollywood Reporter’s annual list of Hollywood’s highest-earning actresses has been released.

1. Nicole Kidman



Nicole Kidman, makes $16 mil-$17 mil. What she should be earning: -$1 mil. That's right, I'm saying that Nicole should be paying film companies to hire her, not the other way around. That's because she's poison at the box office, the female equivalent of Sean Penn. Women dislike her, men don't think she's sexy, and those Chanel ads induce nausea. My guess is Nicole's rate dates back to Sony Pictures overpaying her for that bomb Bewitched. Since then, she's been doing smaller films, but is signing for studio projects right now. Note to majors: save your $$$ and hire Reese or Angelina.

2. Reese Witherspoon



Reese Witherspoon, $15 mil. What she should be earning: $25 mil. Reese can do no wrong. Women love her, men love her, the camera loves her. And she's smart: when she was looking for a new agency, she lamented not owning her Legally Blonde character because it'll be Broadway bound. Which doesn't mean all her films are great, but she's always great in them. She opens a movie. 'Nuff said.

3. Renee Zellweger



Renee Zellweger, $15 mil. What she should be earning: $5 mil. Renee doesn't open movies, unless the material is Bridget Jones-cloned. She's fine as the wife or girlfriend, but then her price needs to be cut by a third. Worse, audiences are getting sick of her changing hair color whenever she changes parts. That's a dye job, not an acting job. Sadly, she's lost her once winning girl-next-door quality; now she's trying to be a fashion diva. Ugh.

4. Drew Barrymore



Drew Barrymore, $15 mil. What she should be asking: $3 mil. Drew has never been able to open a movie, and she never will. That doesn't mean she isn't sweet onscreen, but lately her roles have been too saccharine. If only she'd bring back that Poison Ivy edginess she once had. Women like her but they don't want to be her (or even briefly married to Tom Green), whereas men don't think she's hot anymore. Drew's price should go up when she grows up.

5. Cameron Diaz



Cameron Diaz, $15 mil. What she should be asking: $7 mil. Put her in a bikini, and she's worth it. Put her in a chick flick (In Her Shoes, The Holiday), and she's not. Everyone finds her sexy, but women don't like her. (It's jealousy. And not just because of Justin.) Plus, she simply doesn't have much range as an actress from the neck up.

6. Halle Berry



Halle Berry, $14 mil. What she should be asking: $5 mil. Once she lost her shot at launching a new franchise as 007's Jinx, she lost what should have been her biggest paydays. Alas, she's now the wrong side of 40, andHollywood is cruel that way.

7. Charlize Theron



Charlize Theron, $10 mil. What she should be asking: $10 mil. A smart actress, surrounded by smart people, doing smart roles. Just don't fuck it up with too many vanity projects like North Country.

8. Angelina Jolie



Angelina Jolie, $10 mil. What she should be asking: $25 mil. There's no one hotter and cooler right now than Angelina onscreen and off (just ask the stalkarazzi), but that could change if she starts auditioning for sainthood by making too many message movies. Let's hope she's too bad-ass for that.

9. Kirsten Dunst



Kirsten Dunst, $8 mil-$10 mil. What she should be asking: $1 mil. Eventually, the Spider-Man franchise will end. Marie Antoinette dying in theaters didn't help her price. She was an idiot not to star in Bring It On sequels for big bucks. She's not sexy enough and she won't age well with audiences. This is a career about to end.

10. Jennifer Aniston



Jennifer Aniston, $8 mil. What she should be asking: $1 mil. She's not a movie star. She's a TV star. Big difference. Most of all, she's not an interesting actress. She can't open a movie, and her choice of material is abysmal. Sure, The Break-Up did okay business, but that was because of Vince and in spite of her. Soon she'll be lucky to score the next Lifetime movie.

"I would love to have a big family one day," Simpson-Wentz told reporters. Added Wentz: "A big soccer team or a band!" Perhaps they will follow in the footsteps of the Jolie-Pitt clan? They already have the "ends in x" boy name! I'll bet Angelina is wishing she had thought of that one first.

Pitt, Jolie turn jewellery designers

Hollywood couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have turned jewellery designers and are set to launch a collection of accessories. The money earned from it will benefit the children's charity started by the Tomb Raider star Jolie.

The duo teamed up with British jewellers Asprey for a selection of high-end gold and silver pieces inspired by serpents as part of The Protector line. The range includes diamond-studded pendants and rings, baby spoons and picture frames, all featuring the reptile, and are priced at $525, reports imdb.com.

Jolie chose the snake theme after being gifted a ring in the shape of a snake while she was pregnant with daughter Shiloh in 2006.

Proceeds from the Protector range, which is being sold at Asprey stores in London, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Dubai, will be donated to the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, an organisation that Jolie co-founded in 2006.

Ashley Greene was born in Jacksonville, Florida. She grew up very close to her parents, Michelle and Joe, along with her brother, Joe. Ashley graduated when she was 17 and headed off to Hollywood to pursue her dream of becoming an actress.

Ashley started modeling with Vision NYC and New Englands Model Group but still had the idea of becoming an actress in her mind. Ashley's dream was achived when she got a role in the movie "Home of the Brave". She has also had a small role in "King of California". In 2008, she was cast as Alice Cullen in Twilight (2008), the higly successful vampire film based on the novel of the same name. She will reprise that role in the sequels New Moon (2009) and Eclipse (2010).

Ashley ranked #68 on Maxim's 2009 Hot 100 list and won the Teen Choice Fresh Face Female award at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards.

In August 2009 nude pictures of Ashley surfaced online and her attorney released a statement saying, "The photos in question, which appear to be of our client, are illegal and are being unlawfully displayed.

Ashley Greene has starred in TV shows such as Crossing Jordan and Shark, but her big break came when she was cast as Alice Cullen in Twilight. Now she's reprising that role in New Moon, and I'm guessing that trend will continue for two more movies.
